Why Is My Shopify Store Getting Traffic But No Sales?

    Back to Blog

This is the single most common question Shopify owners ask. Traffic is arriving, the analytics look busy, and the order notifications stay silent. In almost every store we audit, the cause is one of seven things.

    1. The Traffic Doesn't Match the Offer

Cheap traffic from broad interest targeting or viral content brings browsers, not buyers. Check your bounce rate by source. If one channel bounces above 70% while others sit at 40%, the channel is the problem — not the store.

    2. Mobile Is Broken (and You Only Test on Desktop)

Over 70% of Shopify traffic is mobile. Open your store on a mid-range Android phone over 4G. If the hero takes more than three seconds, or the Add to Cart button requires a scroll and a squint, you have found your leak.

    3. Visitors Don't Understand What You Sell in 3 Seconds

Your hero must state what the product is, who it's for, and why it's better. Not a slogan. If a stranger can't repeat it back after three seconds, rewrite it.

    4. Product Pages Describe, They Don't Persuade

Spec lists don't sell. Buyers need the outcome, objection handling (sizing, shipping, returns), and proof — reviews with photos near the top, not buried in a tab.

    5. There Are No Trust Signals

New visitors don't know you. Reviews, a visible return policy, real contact details, and secure-checkout cues are what convert a stranger into a first-time buyer.

    6. Shipping Costs Appear Too Late

Surprise shipping is the number one abandonment cause worldwide. Show estimated shipping on the cart page or state a free-shipping threshold in your announcement bar.

    7. Checkout Has Avoidable Friction

Forced account creation, too many fields, no express wallets. Each one costs a percentage of completions.

How to Diagnose Yours in 20 Minutes

Open Shopify Analytics and read the conversion funnel: sessions → product views → added to cart → reached checkout → converted. The biggest percentage drop is your priority. Everything else can wait.
